Everyone was born with an Immune System, it is the natural protection that was given to us, for defence against infections, germs, diseases, invaders and microorganisms that the body faces on a daily basis. The immune system attacks anything that invades the human body that is likely to cause illness or disease.

The immune system is made up of cells, proteins, organs and tissues. All the cells initially, come from the bone marrow which also produces red blood cells and platelets. The cells that are a part of your defending system are white cells and they are stored in many places around the body, including the spleen, thymus, lymph nodes and of course in bone marrow.

The white cells circulate around the organs and lymph nodes, by what is called the lymphatic system, they also travel along the blood circulatory system, so you can see that they are well organised for visiting every part of your body. This is the reason why they are so important and essential for good health.

These cells comunicate with each other all the time, when two cells meet, plainly speaking, they eye each other up and down, to see if the other has a problem, if one has something wrong then help is called to repair the cell, if it is beyond repair, it is eliminated completely from the system. this is called cellular communication.

There are millions of these cells throughout your body, working all the time to keep you in good health, day and night. If they are looked after properly, they will work efficiently, and fight all the invaders, but if they are starved of the right nutrition through poor quality food, like takeaways, alcohol abuse, smoking or drug abuse, then they start falling over, and you start picking up illnesses, or diseases, or they become confused and start working on the wrong things, this is when you can start to develop autoimmune deseases like diabetes, they attack the insulin producing cells or any of the other complaints like arthritis, multiple sclerosis and perhaps even age related happenings.

This is what they call “Hope”?

We’ve all gotten used to the idea that certain maladies will be around for a while…like until the Second Coming. Maladies such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis…and many more are expected to be around, in epidemic proportions, longer than we think we will be alive…and anyone who tries to tell us otherwise is looked upon with real skepticism. In fact, when anyone tries to tell us “there’s hope” for such maladies as, say, diabetes, we are more likely to believe that the person is trying to sell us something…and usually we are right.

But, what’s even worse is the fact that the “hope” we do receive is usually something like the following:

Studies show people at high risk for type 2 diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of the disease by losing 5 to 7 percent of their body weight. You can do it by eating healthier and getting 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. In other words: you don’t have to knock yourself out to prevent diabetes. The key is: small steps that lead to big rewards. Learn more about your risk for developing type 2 diabetes and the small steps you can take to delay or prevent the disease and live a long, healthy life.

Of course, this is good advice. No denying it. As a medical doctor, I had to dispense advice like this for years, for diabetes and other conditions. Funny, as good as it is, I NEVER saw anyone become ecstatic, do cartwheels or celebrate because they had just received such counsel. Why? BECAUSE WHAT WE REALLY WANT FROM THE MEDICAL WORLD IS A CURE!

And why not? It just doesn’t seem fair that the only real answer to conditions like diabetes or obesity is the “hope” that we stop eating almost everything we enjoy, sweat till we drop, “pop” prescription pills ’till we’re bloated, and think positive…forever.

    A new future?

So, of course, I was skeptical too when I began to hear the claims associated with glyconutrition. As a long time medical professional and scientist, I know that “claims” are easily made… And who ever heard of “glyconutrition” anyway?

I recently read a lengthy article on Glyconutrients. The author of the article (who shall remain nameless), incorrectly and falsely made statements about glyconutrients and cures. If you or a loved one are suffering from an auto-immune disorder, please read this article before randomly buying a product off the internet.

Don’t get me wrong. I am a huge proponent of glyconutrients. However, people need to be informed and educated before they start buying nutritional products.

The reality is that glyconutrients are GREAT; and they seriously help people that have compromised immune systems. Glyconutrients have the ability to feed our body at the cellular level. The end result of this is that your body acts and responds more efficiently. This means your body will naturally fight off and address current illnesses and ailments BETTER than if you did not take glyconutrients.

At this point in the research with glyconutrients, it is INCORRECT to make statements that glyconutrients heal. However, the research is far enough along that people who are battling auto immune disorders should SERIOUSLY consider taking glyconutrients.

My other beef with glyconutrient advertising is that it is NOT a silver bullet. There are many good things everybody should be doing for their bodies on a daily basis. These things are even more important when you are fighting a major autoimmune disorder.

For example, everybody should be doing the following:

    Taking a good multivitamin

If you or somebody you care about is struggling with fatigue, autoimmune disorders, or a life threatening illness, glyconutrients can help. These all natural plant based ‘raw materials’ help support your body’s ability to produce special structures called glycoproteins. Glycoproteins directly affect the ability of your cells to communicate with each other so they are functioning correctly. Everybody responds and fights disease the best when your cells are communicating effectively.

Most bodies’ do not metabolize food and nutrients correctly b/c their body is “out of balance”. The glyco proteins in Glyconutrients, provide your body the raw materials it needs to encourage your body to ’self-correct’ any imbalances.

“Your body is an amazing health machine that can heal itself of disease if you give it the proper nutrition.”

Glyconutrients should be taken in conjunction with a GOOD multi-vitamin. They are not a replacement for a healthy diet and multi-vitamin supplementation. The addition of Glycontrients to your diet will enhance the efficacy of your wellness regime (proper nutrition and vitamin supplementation).

What do Doctors Say about Glyconutrients?

“The biggest revolutionary change in the war against disease is represented by glyconutrients. Glyconutrients are taking their place as one of the pivotal classes of nutrients. I know this not only because of the medical studies but also by the profound effects it has had toward promoting health in my patients that had been lacking over the past 20 years”. — Michael D. Schlachter, M.D., Board Certified Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease Clinical Instructor, University of Nevada Medical School.
